Chiropractic Care FAQ: Our Chiropractor in Downtown Toronto Answers Your Questions
Our chiropractor in Toronto, Dr. Brian Dower, works with a wide range of patients on an even wider range of conditions. We know that many people think of chiropractic care as applicable only to certain conditions like back pain or whiplash, but while we can and do treat those conditions with great success, we offer a great deal more as well. Here are some common questions people ask us about our services.
How does chiropractic treatment help neck pain or back pain?
Many cases of back pain or neck pain stem from subluxations, which are misalignments and structural shifts within the spinal column. When something interferes with the vertebraes' alignment, the bones or the discs between them may irritate nearby nerves, causing local and/or referred pain. By realigning the spine and correcting these structural shifts, we remove the nerve pressure and relieve the pain.
Can chiropractic care treat headaches and migraines?
Chiropractic adjustments can work well for both tension headaches and migraines. Tension headaches often fade when muscle tension caused or aggravated by a misalignment is relieved. Adjustments can also help to relieve the nerve pressure, inflammation and chemical imbalances associated with migraine headaches.
How do I know if I have an injury after an accident of some sort?
Maybe you've tripped and stumbled down a TTC stairway...or over-reached on the tennis court....or been in a fender bender. It may be all too obvious that you are suffering from an injury if you experience pain and stiffness, especially in your neck or back. In other cases, however, you might not feel any symptoms at all. Even so, we strongly recommend that you schedule an immediate evaluation with our chiropractor in Toronto, because lingering injuries can cause internal scarring and other issues that may eventually cause further pain and more serious injury. Early treatment can make a major difference in the length or complexity of the treatments we must administer.
What other forms of treatment do you prescribe?
Our primary adjusting technique uses very precise and gentle Computer-Assisted Adjusting, using the Sigma system. In addition to this style of adjustment, our chiropractor in Toronto can offer traditional manual adjustments, as well as Activator and Thompson Drop-Table techniques to address specific musculoskeletal issues. We also recommend complementary therapies such as muscle release work, heat, ice, acupressure and acupuncture for more effective and swifter care.
